Hello all, the last board I done a simple spray design on which was pretty much musking up the top half and around the bottom. Came out pretty good, but when I had the board on the glassing stand (with the masking tape sticky side up) to install the fins, removed the board and two white dots appeard where the paint used to be, sticking to the tape.
I’m not 100% sure now how long I waited for the paint to completly dry but being out of the spray gun it was drying quick quickly.
I’d like to spray my next project with a heap of different colours but in order to achieve this I will have to mask up the board, spray the area, then remove some of the covered areas, tape up the sprayed areas, spray some more, then continue this to finish my design.
I’m just worried that when I lay the tape over the sprayed sections that the paint will get pulled up with the tape.
How do you guys go with spraying designs and taping over them for spraying different colours, does it remove some paint or is there a trick to it?
Two options that I use for mutliple color changes with acrylics. First and probably most used is to add Futures floor acrylic finish by “Pledge” to the acrylic paint instead of water. When dried the futures seals the paint allowing you to use tape over it. The second option is to spray acrylic clear over the painted area to be taped. Do some test runs with the Future to figure out the amount needed to keep from coming off. When I started using it, I didn’t add enough the first time and some paint came off but when I added more it was all good.
If you’re painting on polyurethane foam, use a heat gun to soften the adhesive of the tape which which makes it unstick from the painted surface when removing.
