Painting your handshaped creation

One major knowledge flaw in Airbrush 101 is when taping over existing colors with #IBM 233 Tape, how do you apply this tape so it won’t peel off color but makes a crisp line?and what kind of ‘drying time’ is required per color? Is there a low stick tape to use over sprayed color? Cause recoating and crystalization are giving me the ‘turista’s’!!!

I hate to airbrush (I like the airbrush part, but glassing over it is the pain in the ass for me), but my buddy is way into it and is very good at it. He does not use any special tape, just good making tape. When removing the tape off of foam with paint already on it, he uses a heat gun (has a bit more concentrated heat than a hair dryer). He heats up the tape before and while removing the tape. It comes right up without pulling any underlying color with it.

Most airbrush sprays go on thin…when the solvent evaporates you end up with a powdery unstable finish. The professionals that I know spray a coat of clear over the paint to lock in the colors. They also let them dry overnight.

Cause > recoating and crystalization are giving me the ‘turista’s’!!! after the paint has dried but before you pull the tape spray clear acrylic on your paint then pull the tape, let it dry real good then you can retape for your next spray job. No need to use #233 tape for airbrushing. As for the crystalization problem, make sure your paint mixture isn’t to thick and put down thin coats ( sometimes as many as 4),let each coat dry real good. This should help I hope. Aloha Kokua

] …Mike, been really busy cranking out a couple boards, and pouring Superchargers.Along with playing phone tag with Larry Block,Thanks, and I haven’t forgotten your request.(the bullet idea sounds good)I always had this Idea of a young feral kid with a beached, beat to death, great white shark, and this kid is ripping out the shark’s teeth and gluing them on his board.(it would make A good murphy cartoon).Herb
