The guy deserves so much more than this, but here’s a small homage anyway. Damn, that guy makes great surfboards! Hopefully it’ll turn some new people on to him, if you know him you know he is way low key …
Thanks DrAL - no “.” between www and the rest always throws everyone, not sure why there’s no dot. I need to figure out how to do a link (I’m a 'tard sorry) …
Hey Mike - wish I could’ve done a bigger piece (more text, photos), have you seen any of the new Rebels? Spot on!!! Wow! Longboard needs to do a piece on him … and Bud, Miller, White, etc., etc. … oh, and you young guys too …
I was told that The Flying Dutchman Surfboard Shop in Melbourne Beach was Murph's. It was on Ocean Blvd. a few doors up from the intersection at A1A. I remember those 10' beauties with those big ol' D fins. Who made Flying Dutchman's? I wish I knew (anyone out there know?). I know that was '63 or '64, I remember as a 9 - 10 year old because we'd drive by it to get to the old Casino Club. We used to ride mats out back from there. And at low tide the beach seemed to stretch for miles from the road to the water. What great days! I have heard too that Pat had a shop on the pier - I'll check that out. Got a line on Miller and White, as soon as I can get a chance I'll do an entry on each ..... Thanks for the feed back. You young guys are alright ...
stirring up alot of memories…Oceanside surfshop on A1A (sand floor), the pier down by Patricks, and the THICK blanks with paper on them. Atleast O’hare’s board is still out. some landmarks are still around.and the last time I saw jack murphy, he was speaking at church.
