Patches over fin boxes on new surfboard (bought off the rack)

Hey everyone. Im a big guy who has cracked the inside fin box which slowly grows until the entire rail cracks on all of my boards. A few years ago i started getting extra glass on top of the fin boxes and the problem has stopped.

I just got a great deal on a new board off the rack and im wondering if it would be a good or bad idea to take it directly to a ding repair and have them put cloth patches over the fin boxes to strengthen them up before they inevitably start to crack?

Yes. If it’s worked for you in the past, do it now.

Sorry I wasnt super clear in the original post. I custom ordered with patches. This would be adding patches after the board was made. would that be the same thing?

It’s not the same thing, but it gets you the result you need.
