Pearl colored board

I have a friend that wants me to make her daughter a board. She wants the board to be the color of a pearl…any suggestions? I like to color boards by tinting the lam resin but would consider painting the blank…has anyone tried to do a “pearl colored” board?

I saw a new Hobie egg the other day that had pearl flames. its hard to see except at certain angles but there is also a tinge of blue and red in the flame as your rotate it. It is wicked! Must have used that paint your speaking of Herb.

That sounds pretty interesting C.D.B.,Tuna lives near me and builds pretty nice boards, maybe we will take a trip down to see you.Tuna will have to buy lunch.

yeah, i would go and spray the sanded finish. def. be a smoother looking finish. especially with a gloss coat…good luck…

I’ve found that pearl ( liquid or powder ) added to clear then sprayed over sanded finish with a nice dark pigment in the lam works well but make sure you wet sand the sanded finish up to 600 grit to take the circular scratches out otherwise the pearl is so fine it highlights every little scratch. good luck!

Tuna!..Just got a peek at your question. There are, indeed, water-based pearlescent paints which you can spray (or brush!) onto your shaped blanks. I get mine…of all places…from a graphics/art supply company called (and I shit you not) PEARL PAINTS (a helluva lot bigger than hawaiian graphics [if you’ve ever been there]). I believe their website is www.pearlart.com or pearlpaints.com…but if you ask for them …(toll free directory)…you can get their toll free number (duh!). they have mega stores in new york, florida, and even california if i’m not mistaken. check them out…LOTS of stuff. T.

Tuna! just went to check for you…and the actual site IS www.pearlart.com.! Check out the other site, though…looks like they have great compressors and supplies (totally different company…one of those “good” mistakes!). T.

Who knows, I don’t! So now I’m getting ready to do a yellow color (with water base acrylic) on my new board and I’m thinking a little pearlesence would be a great touch. Can I add a some pearl power to the paint and spray the blank? Or will the pearl effect be lost? Gone Surfin’, Rich
