Anyone try this? Am I on glue for wanting to try it?
I just love glitter, but it can give some problems with contamination if used in the top layer.

oh, it works; it works pretty damn well actually.
depending on what type of pigments you’re using the effects can be quite varied though.
smaller mica particles often used in pearlescent pigments tend to not show up well at all if used in the lam layer, meaning you gotta use them in the hotcoat and gloss to achieve the desired effect, so getting it even is tricky.
larger particles can be used in the lam coats, but tend to sit on top rather than penetrate the fabric, so again, if you sand through, you’ll get some uneven bits.
some of them turn out pretty sweet though. this one http://danielsmith.com/products~cat~800~sku~284+010+053.asp looks great when right in the lam; same sort of effect as texalium, but lipstick red…pretty cool. They’ve got plenty of others. All the same rules apply for tinted/pigmenting; mix VERY thoroughly, possibly even with grinding, and filter before use for even distribution.
recently saw a board at 2 mile surf shop in Bo…mebbe Benny1 can snap a photo, that had BIG flakes in the lam, hotcoat and gloss; sort of dark blue metal flakes on a greenish board; everyone called it “the lure”. Now…Bo Bay is apparently the #2 highest concentration of big toothers in the world…and the story was that every single person in the shop had surfed that board at one point or another. Suffice it to say, I didn’t have the balls to take it out when I was there at the beginning of “sharktober”.

The stuff I ordered is a powdered pigment made with fine Mica particles such as GWN talks about in his post. I’m glassing it with the pigment and red metallic flake (maybe a little blue flake mixed in) so I can do it as a cutlap.
It’s my board so as long as it rides, I’m not overly worried about it.
You can get a natural pearl pigment by milking your man udder.
