I like peel ply. The down side is the cost. I remember reading a post a while back where someone had a cheaper alternative. I can’t seem to find what I’m looking for in the archives. I’ve tried using dress and curtain lining. They leave a great finish but are hard to get off once the resin has set. Anyone remember the post. Anyone have any release tricks. I’ve even though of spraying a cheaper cloth with silicone spray, though in general I try to keep sislicone well away from my boards. Appreciate any help
I just posted on the same subject,as long as it is 100% polyester dress lining material is the same stuff, It all takes a little bit of efort to lift off,try either when the resin is still quite green or leave it a little longer ie two days.
In my experience any 100% polyester or 100% nylon fabric will work.
Try to avoid fabric that has been coated with something to make it look better. With some lining material I tried, I noticed one side of the cloth came off pretty easily but the other side did not. One side of the fabric appeared to have some kind of a coating on it to make it appear iridescent.
If you look around long enough, you may be able to find a peel ply from a composite supplier that is the same price as what the local sewing shop will charge you for anything that is not on the discount rack. I’ve found that the prices vary widely - some composite shops seem to have a ridiculous mark-up on their vacuum bagging supplies.
