People doing cork - are you compensating for thickness

Just  a quick feeler to see what others are doing with their cork builds, whether you are taking into account the thickness of the cork and taking that off your blank so that the finished product is desired dimensions, or just adding it on to the shaped dimensions.

I have just been adding it on up until now, as I have been trimming it as a deck patch basically. But i’m now planning on trying to run it all the way down to the rail edge, and am thinking an extra 1/6 of width and 1/12 of thickness right on the rail where it counts might be an issue.

I’m of two minds:

  1. The foam is what’s floating the board so the volume difference is negligible

  2. The overall finished shape and weight of the whole build are what interact with the wave, so the additional thickness on the rails could effect performance.

Would love to hear your opinions

I should have.
the rails ended up thicker than I would have liked.

On the first board I covered the deck , about the rear 2/3 , just where it would be waxed , chamfered the edges and sealed with resin , the board was 1/8 thicker . On the second board , after I glassed the deck I marked out where it would be waxed and routed it out 1/8 deep , layed in some 4oz s cloth and inlayed the cork , the board stayed the intended thickness . On the next board I intend covering the entire deck with cork and laminating it into the rails , hopfully to end up with cork rails thick enuf to shape as if it were foam .
