Peralta Reproduction

This Christmas my son came over to Perth from North Queensland for a couple of weeks. We decided to make my grandson a replica of a Peralta skateboard.

Turned out pretty well and only cost $20 to make…

Next…

It’s made from bog standard 3 ply x 3 with a layer of epoxy and 6oz between each piece…

Topped off with 2 layers of glass top and bottom, with a patch on the bottom of the kicktail, red and yellow tinted epoxy flicked onto the deck…

This is the first time my son Brendan has had anything to do with power tools, wood and glassing…

He was really stoked and couldn’t wait to give it to 4 yo Bailey but the airline security said it was a weapon and he couldn’t take it on board…I posted it over so it should be their soon…

I’ll post the how to piccies if anyone is interested…

Looks amazing…

i would love to see the how-to pics if you dont mind!

ps. everything is a weapon in the airport these days,

including my cologne!?

Would love to see the “how to” pics.

Just my opinion but that board deserves some indy 169’s.

thanks for posting that Grant ! [nice to see another pigment flick board , too !!]

your son DEFINATELY looks like you eh ?

that board turned out really well… I wouldn’t mind attempting a similar thing with my concaved , single kicked 1980s Santa Cruz deck …

…yes , PLEASE post the how-to pics , if / when you ever get time ?!

cheers !

ben

Really amazing! Great Job!

How did you make the concave?

Great work !

I can show you how to cut time and make it better, but there’s nothing wrong with what you have made,Cheers Mate !Herb

Now,back to those st#nking Superchargers…MAN,I’ve got like 50 orders to fill.(more actually)

Have faith, they will be on their ways soon …or I’ll go completely nuts finishing them !

If anyone wants to finish there own ,all the molding stuff is finished, they just need a bit of sanding and a shot or two of acrylic spray.Let me know and I’ll ship them STAT.(I have all the envelopes finished and ready to go,so no probs there.)Herb

Thanks guys, it was really good fun doing this with him…

Basically it’s pieces of wood all screwed together to form a bending jig, the nose of the board towards the left in this piccie.

Roughly cut out the 3 panels and the 2 bits of glass, the old board fits nicely on the jig in the background.

Wet out and put all the bits loosely on the jig. There are 4 threaded rods on the outside of the main section. This is where the top section fits in…

Next…

Put the top section on and screw the lot down tight.

Rex inspects for quality control…

We waited a couple of days for everything to set then unscrewed the top…

Next…

One layer of glass on the deck wetted out and mix up two small batches for tint

Allow to set, flip the board over and glass the bottom…

Trim after everything is set and drill the truck holes…

Come on Herb, tell me more.

I did learn a few thing in the process that I would do differently next time but it’s always good to hear from others experiences…

Hey Riddim, I scored those trucks really cheaply and the wheels came off a $20 Kmart skateboard…

I would have loved to put some better hardware on but it’s only for a 4 year old…

Next time I do it, it’ll be for me or Chip so the gear attached will have to be high tech…

If its for chip ya better put in several bolt holes for diferrent truck postions and a few plugs for good measure… mmm curved wheels with a tail wing spoiler…

aha aha hahhaha

… kiri , you wag you !

hey chip you could get some good wheels of those zimmer frames at your work, just dont tell bertidue…

Please tell me more Herb…very open to new ideas…

Definitely some indy trucks and maybe some OJ II’s or Slimeball wheels. That would be sweet.

Awesome! How long did the board take you?

Did the $20 include the cost of the jig?

Hey Rhino,

The board took 3 days to make, mostly waiting for the epoxy to set, poly would be faster but it “could” crack being a little more stiffer. The epoxy has the ability to seep into the wood better and make it a little stronger…

The jig I built was from left over wood from a building site down the road, offcuts from roof timbers, I asked the guys if I can grab some bits, = $free…

Whan I get some other shapes to play around with, I can unscrew the lot, reposition and do another one…
