Phil Edwards Honolulu "E" Series 7'0"

Taken from Hawaiian Islands Vintage Surf Auction website posted in 2005, but no pictures:

“1968  This is the highest number "Phil Honolulu"" shape we've ever found.  Quite possibly one of the last boards Phil shaped before moving back to the mainland.  Number E 10, it is the last and final series, featuring a 1/8"" redwood stringer, roundtail design, high performance green tint fin, green tint lamination top and bottom with green pigment pin line.   A very rare Phil Edwards short board!  Pre-auction estimate $2000-$3000”

I’d love to see a picture of anything Phil shaped under 8’. I have a photo of an 8-6 that looks pretty much like any of Phil’s bigger boards just proportioned down to 8-6. Did his sub-8’ boards look any different? Dimensions?

Found what I was looking for on page 39 of Guy Motil's "Surfboard", but would welcome any other pix or comments.

A fellow brought this board in to get appraised before last year’s auction…I was telling the guy to keep the board…and that they would low ball the estimate etc…and he goes and sells it to the appraiser. I think it was for $300…I wudda given that  for the board…it looks rough…but it was all there…I forget the length…but under 8 foot for sure…

Not sure what the C 57 means…curious though

$300 for a restorable Honolulu Edwards? That guy was robbed. I have a guess who the “appraiser” was. No surprise.

Here’s an OP from '74. Not sure what series the board is from. But, you can bet he shaped it.

From what I've read it looks like the "Honolulu" series was a late-60s transition shape. I think the letters "A", "B", "C", etc were part of the sequential numbers. I'm not sure if they had any special meaning, like inidicating major changes in design (?). In the one picture I saw, the basic outline was a wp-forward shape with a pintail. Was  the board you saw a pintail? The website listed above had three other Honolulu's; a B-series, a C-series and a D-series as I recall.

It was not the boss…he is subtle in his wheeling and dealings…In fact he was not happy with the guy buying it as I recall… I really thought I had convinced the guy to keep the board or otherwise I would have asked for chance to make an offer…

I remember the fin being really deep…like 10 inches or more

Hey Bill!    Would you agree with me?  Phil  was and is a unique person as a surfer, shaper and waterman?  Unbeliveably unique and influenced many.

Proneman i posted about my P E here and noticed that i made an error in the length of my board. I posted it as a 8’10 but  in fact it is a 7’10"  it might be for sale intrested?
