photo editing/graphic software sorry this is off topic

anyone have some tips on a good photo editing/graphic design program. i take a few surfing pics and i would like to do a bit more to the photos like tinting them to black and white or sepia ect. where do the magazines get those photoframes from that they put around their pics, like the ones in Surfer magazine article with skip frye, joel tudor and rob machado. any help will be appreciated.

Try out The Gimp, it’s Open Source, so its free and it is very comparable to Photoshop.

They just released a new version to make it feel more like Photoshop.

I have both and use am transitioning out of using Photoshop because its just to damn expensive, and the Gimp does everyhting I need it to.

If you want to buy photoshop at a big discount, enroll in a community college class or two (check at the bookstore) and buy it as a student. It’s an offer from Adobe that encourages students to buy their stuff, but I’m not sure that there’s a requirement you have to always remain a student.
