Hello all,
I just found this site and I’m guessing someone here can help me out. As a gift, I would like to present a friend with a new longboard with a lam or photograph of his family in the glass. Image would probably be approx. 11’‘x17’'. I’m going to try and get a Becker shaped and would like whatever method I choose to not have any detrimental effects on the board.
Does anyone know the name(s) of the companies that manufacture the laminates for boards? I’m guessing they work from computer files these days and could possible manufacture a photograph lam.
Suggestions, links, comments, etc…
Thanks in Advance.
you just need to get some rice paper and print the picture on it with a standard printer. Kinkos should be able to do it for you, though not cheap usually.
I can do it for you too for $20 or so to cover my costs.
Sometimes large lams wrinkle durring glassing, especially where there is more curve. but put the picture on the bottom and it should be fine.
Thanks droptrow,
That makes sense. Thanks for the offer I may take you up on it depending on how receptive my local printers are.
Preferably, I wanted to put the image on the deck 2/3 up but I’t really doesn’t matter all that much.
Thanks again.
The first time I printed lams, I had a hard time finding the paper. But I eventually found FoamEZ. then everyone said to tape the rice paper to normal paper so it will feed through the printer. But I was using a large format printer and it wasn’t working, finally I tried feeding it through without the paper taped to it and it worked perfect so long as I kept a little tension on the leading edges.
Good luck.
Hi CBS_ SURFER,
You can get what we call a vail fabric which is made from finely spun fibre glass, it is very thin and the guy's who developed it have been printing all types of patterns on it from photo's of old pub's to nude girls.
It will become the replacement for rice paper soon, as it doesn’t delaminate,
