Picked outa the garbage in Manoa...

Many years ago! Here's the scoops… A guy posted these boards on craigslist months ago. No pictures, no sizes, just " old board" in a large categorie ( antiques ) so his ad got buried amongst the hundreds of daily items posted. I consider myself a dumpster diver and picker of the highest degree, and craigslist is considered part of that fun! So I contacted him, he emailed me pics, and right off the bat I said to myself, " too short, I can't ride em, not interested". Plus the $250 for both was a lot more than I wanted to pay. Well we emailed back and forth, the guy found them in the trash at a house in Manoa that was being cleaned out years ago, a Mike Smith bolt (5'7") and a Dennis Pang Surfline. Both pre- leash plug single fin rockets. I decided to pass, well a few days later I get an email,  " I want you to have the boards, nobody else came to look at them, and you seem genuinely into their stories, history, purpose. They are yours, come and get them when you have time". I'm not joking when I say this, I'm not a collector, these boards keep finding ways into my possession, and the way I come about them, is just mind boggling. I think, I may be becoming a hoarder… The Hoard of Board! Any info you guys have on these lil gems would be greatly appreciated! Aloha Friday!

The 'Bolt takes up almost the entire deck, and bottom!

Still a cool lil sled though!

Score!

  ' hoarder ' eh ,  you say ?

funny you should mention that …  a guy here has has 70 . And, his son ?? … about the same […not to mention …a certain 'hydrofoiler' , here ?  … the underneath of his house is just COVERED  in boards !!!]

  "  collector / hoarder / keep every board they've ever had-er"

…WHAT was the name of that guy in that surf movie [ I forget which one , now] who  has surfed every day , for something like 30 YEARS ?! …  HE certainly springs to mind , too…with his old boards , old wetsuits , and massive waxball !!  haaaa !!!

  tallyho !  …onward and upward …and 'out there' !

( I kinda like the board on the left , despite the big fish logo …)

  cheers !

Dale somebody I think…

I think he's on the ERBB under "Surfcat"

The guy with the giant ball of wax is my friend, Dale Webster. He has the Guinness Book world record for most consecutive days surfed. You'd be hard pressed to find a nicer, more down to earth guy. And yes, every time he strips his wax he saves it, adding to that giant ball he keeps on his back deck.

Here’s the other, a 6’6" Surfline with a Dennis Pang lam. Aside from a few bad, old repair jobs, it’s solid! No delam, the swallow tail is in good shape, and the fin is totally save-able! Started cleaning it up today…

Had to have been done by a kid back in the day lol. Brutal!

Going to clean up nice with repairs

Anyone guess a date made for this beauty, or the bolt?

Lots of treasures like this out there, hope some of you are lucky like me to have them find YOU!

72-74 on both, would be my guess. No leash plugs. Of the two, I'd guess the Bolt is older, owing to the soft diamond tail.

Just random guesses, mind you.

Well, it looks like the "plain text" option is problematic. Whatta mess!

What a score! Nice looking fin on that D. Pang too. Post pics when they’re fixed…or bring them by the shop.

early leash,1973?

…ambrose…

early 70’s

you can see the same in my early 70’s quiver shot

Ithik the yellow and white T&C is a Glenn Pang from that era

The yellow and white T&C is a Dennis Pang from 1977 or 78. The original fin was a long and narrow fin like a velzy classic, that’s a Brewer fin. Got that board when Craig moved the shop up to the new shopping mall along Moanalua Rd above Waimalu. I think he charged me $150 or maybe $180. That board has influences from what Mark Liddle, Buttons and Larry B were riding. The fin box was set to put the fin way up. That board and the Iggy right above it were really good boards.

Here’s the Mike Smith 'Bolt as cleaned up as the Pickle and goof off is going to get it!
