Pictures of my first fabric inlay

Hi all,

This is my first post here, but I’ve been reading the forum for a while. I really appreciate everyone taking time to share their knowledge and experience, it’s been super helpful for me, thanks! I wanted to share the results of my first fabric inlay on my third board. It’s EPS and expoxy, with two Thai sarongs inlaid – 8’x22"x2.75."

looks pretty good.

Interesting shaping stands…

Also interesting process by which it seems you went about putting down the inlay/bottom lam.

Now you just need some big waves.

Looks good.  I also like the racks.  Do they spin.  They gave me an idea if they spin.   You can use one side to shape, then spin to the others side (closed end) to glass.

Yeah! That’s exactly what they’re for. Good observation. My roomate invented it. They flip over, and we place garbage bags on them for glassing.

Nice work on the inlay. I’ve just done my first, second and third all in a row and appreciate that it’s not as easy as some make it look.

I too like the look of those stands - is there any chance you could post a few more shots, from different angles?

Thanks, the stands slide in and out as well, to accomodate different length boards. I’ve also made an attachment for handplanes, so it’s pretty useful. My roomate has some better angles on his instagram account: instagram.com/mussel_shoals

Nice work Boundarylayer.

On the racks, how much play do you have it it?  Does it move much?  thx

Very cool inlay! Props to your roomate on the racks too.

Nope, It’s pretty solid. It doesn’t really move around at all.

I like how the inlay and the pinline go around the leash plug.

Nice.
