'Pig' boards

Seem to remember from times past, around 77 that a style of board we called ‘pig boards’ were doing the rounds. narrow nose, around 6’6" - 7’ wide point waaaay back at around 3/5 [60%] bach from the nose and then tucked in quite sharply to a pintail. Single fin, cant remember the rails. Used to surf then standing back and sorta waggling the front around with the leading foot.

Anybody else remember these? a photo would be nice

Dewey Webber has now a model called “pig”, at it seems something really similar to what you described:

My brother shaped me something like this last year as a wedding present. It’s even wider in the tail that the Dewey Weber in the pic.

I think the dimensions are 5’9", 19 1/4", 2 3/8". He put 2 bigger twin fins on the sides and fcs plugs in the middle for a small trailing fin.

The board is very quick and responsive, super fun, and great for mush NJ summer slop.

Close, but no cigar.

the board I remember did’nt carry the hwidth forward as much. I suppose it was sorta teardrop shaped, but englongated. the only thing I can think of is a magic carpet, the other way round!!

Sounds like a McCoy nugget you are describing…or a Lazor zap…

This is what I have.

Hey Swordie,

There is a guy in Fla that does boards similar to what you are describing…9-10" noses, and some thinner by the looks, do a search for " prime surfboards" that is the name, wild airbrushes, lots of blues and oranges…anyway ,take a look…peace and waves…

How does this look for a Pig?

Josh,

Good to hear that board worked out well. Looks like a fun ride… one of those boards that is really fun in a different-path way.

Another note, how did that finbox replacement go? I gotta get around to replacing the one in that '67 LB I have.

And yet another note, I just got the wheels rolling with Carpenter Foam in PA as a source for 2lb EPS … gonna start hackin’ a few boards soon.

Ricky Carrol does 9’6’’ Velzys that are called pigs and are exactly like you describe.

I haven’t gotten around to sinking the replacement finbox yet. I just glassed my dad’s board so I haven’t had time. I did put a fin box in my dad’s board and it came out ok. It’s a little sloppy around the edges but not bad for my first time.

I’d like to see your boards when you get around to shaping them.

looks like the tudor model would suit lleyn - build one then get down to gower - and see what the mochyn will do!

pretty close, but possibly an even narrower nose , so that he transition from there to the wide point aft is even more abrupt.

I’m sure there was a kick to the nose as well.
