First off the planer in question is a Black and Decker 7696Type 2 so it nmay not be worth the time but I wanna give it a shot. The problem is I was working on an alaia and it sounded like the pich change and then in the motor housing could see pretty descent sparks and it started smoking. I’ve run it since then and it doesn’t smoke so I figure that is from the saw dust but it still sparks any suggestions? thanks Chris
warranty?
Sparks in my shop would blow the place up probably. You may have the “christine” of planers.
HAhaha. No warranty got it second hand
I learned a while ago when something sparks that usually doesn’t - turn it off if and get away.
Try changing brushes, maybe?
if it is sparking, the brushes are worn down to the end or the brush holders have enough dirt in them to keep the brushes from advancing and the current is arcing across the gap.
My trustly 45 year old Skil was doing it while shaping a balsa this week, unplugged it, unscrewed the brush cap and the brush was as worn down as imaginable and lodged in its seat from grime. A replacement brush and off to the races again
Jim and Balsa Thanks a bunch for the help looks like I got another project for the weekend
