Already posted in another thread, but here we go again:

Everyday “workhorse”, good old Skil 100 that formerly belonged to Carl Olsen (thanks for selling it to me, Carl):

Huge boards/balsa boards special, this Rockwell 653 was very generously sent to me by Mr John Mellor and is said to have belonged to Gene Cooper:

Before I acquired the Skil, I shaped for maybe 15 years with this Ryobi L22LN. Still have it but needs new belt, new brushes, new bearings, new…:

Just like (almost) anybody else, I have this small Hitachi P20SB with home-made mods. Only use it for short boards:

Latest purchase was that Makita 810 CK:

And, although I don’t own it anymore (gave it to Jeffrey) I must include the Hitachi F30A (great for big/balsa boards):

These are the ones that I actually USE for shaping boards. I’ve got a few others, just for the fun of it (see the other thread I was referring to).

How do you like that Makita 810 ?????????????

My $20.00 Skil 100 7.5 amp.

I hate this thread. I want a skill 100 or a f30 so bad. i have been searching for a cheapy or one that needs a rebuild for 4 years havn’t found one yet. then the kid at fiberglass supply otold me he got a one at goodwill for 30 bucks. Some day I will find my elusive 100 in a pawnshop or somewhere.  But my clark hitachi has been a great planer for the small boards.

I will try and find you a F30 they are so powerful and for doing wood they are so great.

They are hard to find but well worth the search.

A LOT !!!

There are two versions of this planer. One is 850 Watts, the other is 1050 Watts. I’ve got the more powerful version and, frankly, it feels like the Hitachi F30, except lighter and shorter/more manoeuverable. The power is even quite surprising in such a “small” tool. When you start it on, you actually feel the front shoe “diving” down. Still waiting for PeteC to come out with pro mods on this one to make it the next shaping standard.

Thanks Ding, Anytime you want to come freeze your ass off on Vancouer island you got a place to sleep.

Hi mako224 -

I like mine as well.  Plenty of power.  Like Balsa says, when you hit the trigger it twists in your hand from the torque.

The front handle allows depth adjust on the fly and most important, spare parts are readily available and don't cost an arm and a leg.

[img_assist|nid=1049787|title=Clark Hitachi F30A/P20SB|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=0|height=0]Here are my Hitachis. My Clark Hitachi P20SB was formerly a "demo" model from the Clark factory. It took me three years to just to find a 110v/8A F30A. Jeff  Holtsby of US Blanks (and formerly Clark Foam) did the custom mods on the F30A which include the 1/4-turn front plate adjuster, sealed bearings, vacuum attachment and 20' cord. The F30A is a foam-mowing beast with 3-5/8" cut. The photo shows the difference in length, with the rear of both planers lined up on the far stringer. I use it exclusively on longboard bottoms where it delivers nice, long, flowing cuts.

This one’s not mine (mine is a humble Bosch),  but as long as these babies cost upwards of $1000 shouldn’t they look like this?

I never imagined a planer could be so beautiful…???.. I must be  going crazy

That top shot is a sexy planer. ha ha  Hummmm.

Balsa, do you use 110v or 240v? Your skill must be 110v? How do you adjust the voltage and is it easier to go from 110v to 240v or the other way around.

I'm looking at the Makita 810K or 810CK, but not exactly sure which voltage to get as I move around quite a bit.

hey claude the skil is 110v i just use a site transformer with mine.

My Skil is on 110V and I use one of these:

I can’t tell you which is easier/better (110 to 240 or the other way around). I guess it depends upon where you “move around” the most? If you travel mainly in Europe, you should go with 240 but if you rather go to the States 110 would be fine…

Bitch’n thread.

Hey NomasTomas could you please show the vacuum attachment of the F30A? I was wondering how I could make one myself for my stock F30A… I don’t really need “on the fly” depth adjusment but is this stuff still avaible somewhere? I thought ClarkFoam spare parts for F30A were not sold anymore (was I wrong?)…

Thank you!

Here's a polished version of the Rockwell 653...
