Can a planer be used with blades or is it essential to insatall a shaping barrel instead of the blades?
I never used one…just sanded…is it easy? anything to look out for?

so long as the planer blades are sharp, no problem.
most people use blades. those grit barrels are pricey…and they make for a lot of heat.
I’m using a Bocsh planner with the standard blades
It cuts a bit lopsided cause the front shoe is slightly tilted
one of these days I will tear into it and fix it
but… it mows foam
I go over the lines set at 0 depth then sanding block it and I’m good
each blank seems to require its own planner push speed (usualy slow and steady)
