So myself and a couple friends are looking into planning a few short, 1-2 day, trips to Baja this summer. I’ve lived in San Diego my whole life, been to Mexico plenty, but never surfed down there! I’m looking for some advice on where to go and how to plan for a short trip like that. Mostly I just don’t know the spots to check out. I speak spanish almost fluently and know the cultural stuff. So, anyone who’s gone before, got any favorite northern-baja breaks to check out? I’ll have my 9’4" noserider and 7’6" egg with me, my friend will have a 7’2" Thruster and a retro single fin [probably around 6’10"? Not quite sure]. Any suggestions?
I thought someone would comment, and am surprised that no one has so far. The area between the border and Ensenada is filled with every type of surf known to man. Most of the big name spots are pretty well covered and even frequented by Mexican surfers. For the most part keep it cool, and don’t be a jackass, and you’ll have a great time. Stay away from “Avenida Revolution”, park your car where its safe, and have a good time. There are good waves to be had and great memories to be made; most of my best memories surfing were made here. I could give you a play by play of every nook and cranny, best size, swell direction, tides, intervals and winds for the region, but that would be too easy. Remember don’t be a jackass, or might end up starring in a donkey show.
Hi Ghettorat
What is a donkey show !!?

Google Cuatro Casas Hostel, Richard will take care of you. Quatro casas is a right point break and can be quite fun, plus you can stay at the secure hostel for $20 a night. Don’t forget to get Mexican insurance before you cross the border, if you have an accident in Mex they will arrest you for not having insurance. Cuatro is about 4 hours south of the border and there are other breaks in the area. Bring your wetsuit and booties the water in Baja Norte can be surprisingly cold.
Spanky, You may actually be perfect for a Donkey Show. There is some weird stuff that goes on off and on the streets of TJ, and for what its worth, the people I know who got in trouble actually went looking for it. It always follows the same pattern, like this; the first time they had a blast, and then somewhere down the line- jail, or worse. So stick to the surf, or the donkey may stick it to you.
Haha… Been a long time since my last donkey show. That’s looking for trouble for sure.
Hi Ghettorat
It sounds like fun , you know like pin the tail on the Donkey or something. Although I don’t like wierd stuff.
Have you been in a Donkey show ? You sound experienced in Mexico.
I’m trying to stick to surfing thanks.
Spanky
Yep, just like pin the tail on the donkey, except the donkey pins the tail on you…
quatro casas is a good call. several spots to surf in that general area. nice longboard point south of quatro, with reef/beachbreak stuff in between. lock your stuff up at night and be cool. if not, the gato noches might get ya.(seriously)
Where? is a safe place to park your car in Baja Norte? Along the road at 38's?? The lot at San Miguel??? We used to park down the alley at "Stacks " but no more. I wouldn't be as worried about donkeys and whores as I would be about being held for ransom by a Rosarito cop. Or -- having my vehicle and everything I own taken from me at gunpoint by a Federale. If your young you got more probs than an old guy like me who can talkk $#!t if necessary.
! No me gusta Baja Norte!
! Prefiero Baja Sur!
But any Baja is better than no Baja!
And I most certainly believe that you would know, Mi Amigo!
Johnny, did you end up going?
