please do not laugh till I am done!

hey so i thought i would try something different. It will be 6,2  x 22 x 4 1/4  step deck

I have just started so still a lot of work to go but I thought I would throw it out there. I have not done the rail bands yet etc

I can get the photos to load more than 1 at a time so here we go

ooooh , I see a THICK board, SKINNY rails, nice composition with the rounded deck. Cant wait !!

My boards are all 3" thick. It is possible to make a gentle sloping rail that has volume, but without that clear "bump" from deck to rail. Granted, 4 1/4 is quite thick, but you can blend them in. Can't wait to see finished pics. I love foamed up boards.

I'm not laughing.  Here's a 3" thick 6'6" wood step deck I started awhile back.  Its on hold for the moment while I finish up another board, but hope to get back to it soon.

Hi Huck, Im in awe of your boards and commitment to accuracy, cleanliness and possibly God-liness.

Come and check MY shaping shed.... It wouldnt pass for an exploded Japanese nuclear plant or even an abandoned whorehouse .

Well at least not ANY of the abandoned whorehouses Ive been to........

 lately.

good one foils! if that were the place I shape, I’d always be looking for those orange handled scissors under inches of foam dust! Blunt nose Huck?

When is it due?

I like it! Now you just need a good name for it.

I did a fish like that and it works pretty good but the rolled deck hurts your ribs a bit.

I would shape in some concave dents for you ribs to sit in.

Have fun,

Twisted, very cool! Keep us posted!

Good job so far.  Not something that I would shape nor even interested in attempting.  But the shaping you have done to this point is good.  Your real test will be in turning a rail that will compliment the deck.  It's my opinion that raised or stepped up decks are an irrelevant design.  I personally beleive that a well shaped board with a domed deck or a board shaped thicker and wider is a better way to go design wise.  Even better shed a few pounds(all of us) and ride something more fitting to our size and ability.  Just comments and personal opinion on my part.  Have fun with your experiment.  Especially when you glass it.

thanks guys for the imput and the coments . I must say that i am not looking forward to glassing the board. I am going to use an expoy i have used a few times before and it sets up alittle slower than the normal resin I use. So hopfully this will give me a bit more time to play with it. I am thinking of going stringerless and maybe putting glass rope around where the step deck starts to help at strength.

you guys think of any good ideas adding for strength with out  a stringer. Planning 2x 6 on top with a 6 deck patch on domed step deck and 2x 4 on bottom

Also I see were you are coming from McDing I agree on the losing weight thing and i can surf something with alot less foam If i want to.... but when you had few to may beers it can make anything look like a great idea.

...a few more, and everything becomes irrelevant LOL!

just started playing around with the tail

with a step like that you wont need a stringer, I glassed mine with two layers of 6 top and bottom. alternated the layers and had a wrap all the way around the rail. is that polystyrene? prob want to do a thickened resin mix on the deck. but yes THICK board SKINNY rails

Brings to mind the old Con Deuce back around 1971.

Your not alone this one is getting ready to glass.

jbird, I like the convex transition  from the lower rail to the deck area.. Very smart idea and smart looking too !

Easier to glass, better strength, smoother volume progression....nice !

I got some time to play with board last night heres some pics of the redwood deck skin patch. ready to do a blending sand anyone got any tips on fine sanding eps my screen paper is not doing that good a job seems to tear a bit
