Hey Gents,
I’m organizing a VB Paddle Board Race next summer and my 8yr old daughter will be competing. Of course I want to make her something just for the event so any help from you NS summertime paddleboard racers please chime in. She’s your typical skinny 8yr old. I’ve never shaped a displacement hull so if anyone suggests it well then It will be a challenge for sure. Maybe a scaled down version of a big wave gun but with low rocker? Any advice would be most excellent.

It won’t be used for anything except paddling. I’ve got a 4yr old as well that will hopefully be using it in future events.
Cheers!

may I sugest
mostly flat rocker, a tad rocker in the nose
narrow outline
1lb eps with a light glass job
little V or belly in the front 1/3rd
flat in the center to tail
thick enough to float her well but not cumersome
Note: lake racers look to have wide tails
heavier boards do glide further once there moving
Is this an ocean or lake race?
Hey Ken,
Thanx for the input. I agree with an overall flat rocker. A little belly in the front 1/3 I can do. Maybe V as opposed to belly?
This will be a 2mi ocean paddle but I’m anticipating very flat calm conditions. So should the shape resemble a big wave gun? Hmm… I wonder if I can get ahold of a section of that SUP pad stuff for it. I’m thinking 6oz top and bottom for a tad bit of weight and a bit of durability. Should I go 4oz?
“Coke bottle”/Morey Swizzle outline?
Maybe have her lay down on her belly in sand and check where her upper body needs to be supported. Take that info and then design knee wells on either side so she can switch from prone to knees?
I saw a paddleboard recently that had a deck like that. The deck was shaped to conform to the paddler’s chest in the center with deep knee wells to the sides.
For pads, try this place.
