ive heard something about gloss resin sometimes having a weird tint when it cures…ive also heard something about instead of using gloss, just polish the hot coat… whould i need to use a polishing compound or just a polishing pad on the sander? or both…should i maybe sand with say 220 first or just go straight to polishing if i have a smooth hotcoat(not likely.)
Most of the boards I glassed were surfed on the hotcoat.
Took me over 40 glass jobs to get the hotcoat smooth, saturated, and ready for final 600, then rubbing,…I didn’t bother with polishing compound so my boards looked raw.
Figure most hotcoats show weave, so why bother polishing?
If your hotcoats really need 220, perhaps it’s better to just gloss it, then go 600, rub, polish. Seems a long road from 220 to 660.
Yes, if the hotcoat is really clean, you can go right to surfing it…or bother with 600 then rub.
well 220 seems to get everything nice and smooth ,but leaves a dull finish , which looks fine to me , but im doing a 9’0’’ for somebody and he wants it to have that polished look ,ive heard i can get that just by using regular hotcoat and polishing…but dont exactly know how to polish cause ive never done it.
