polishing; will 1750 rpms do?

Can anyone tell me whether my 1750 rpm sander will work for high grit wetsanding and polishing? Are higher rpms (6000) needed for a good polish, or will my 1750 be enough? And finally, wetsand to 600(?) then work through 2 compounds? Thank you for your help- connor

Thank you for your help- connor… …well you shouldn’t overheat the board’s surface, least ways. You really need a sander/polisher of speeds of at least 3000 rpm.If you’re just doing one or two boards once in awhile it will work, but it will go slow…which sometimes ,for some people that a better choice anyway.Herb.

Thanks Herb, I think I;ll give it a go and make sure not to overheat anywhere. What types of polishing compounds am I looking for? Thanks- connor
