It works, I do it sometimes. Now here is the down side. It needs to be clean, and freshly sanded. Not past 120 grit. The resin is going to grab onto all those micro scratches.
All the epoxy surfacing agent must be sanded off. You would have possibly been better hot coating without any surfacing agent, and just sand through the fish eyes.
Now get off any dust. No water - Alcohol - tack rag - etc - wipe down. Only a clean brush or clean dry compressed air. And the brush must only be used for dusting! Never used to paint with, never been cleaned with solvents that might contaminate.
Go ahead and gloss.
Now the down side is that since it won’t chemically bond with the epoxy, only mechanically with the scratches in the hot coat, if you bang it, the resin will chip. Not badly if everything was done right. But pretty easily if it wasn’t. hit it hard enough to put a small ding, expect the resin will lift off about a half inch further around.
But don’t let me scare you off. I do it on by epoxy boards if I want more than a 220 grit sand finish.
oh, un million tnx
I made several boards in this way, but in afternoon I meet a friend which professionally use epoxy for boat construction and ear me speak so, he tell “Oh…no…I never mix epoxy anda poly, is not possible”!
I repeat I shape laminate finish and sell almost ten board, no one return me with protest!
