polypropylene blank........

Check it out…whaddya think?

they have nearly no info on there. maybe once they get some info posted we will get some opinions

A guy I know from Sennen has a 10’ Mal made with one of these blanks!!! I bumped into him in the carpark one day, and he had this new board by is Truck! I’m like oo errr new board, looks nice? He says pick it up… So I crouch down, and grab each rail and lift… I almost fell over backwards…Sooooo light…

I reckon I’ll be havin a look at a few of these in the new year…Will post some more info If I can get it!!

what little I can think of with respect to polypropylene is that PE resin won’t stick to it at all. Isn’t this the stuff that margarine tubs are made from? I like those because you can flex 'em and crack the old hardened resin out, then the tub is just like new and you can waste more patching resin in them.

But I dunno if epoxy will stick either. It matters, because the skin has to adhere to the blank to get the vital shear transfer between the flexible core and stiff shell. I don’t think you could simply laminate or bag a stiff skin on and expect any strength.

I believe that’s why Richardson covers his polypropylene shape with a coat of urethane skin,

They basically build their blanks with chunks of the squishy polypropylene foam around a core of shaped and glassed blue foam and then shape the board from the blank created with all the white stuff. How they get the polypropylene to stick to the glassed blue foam core is beyond me.

But Jeff Johnson said they were a b*tch to shape.

He said it took him all day where he could finish 3 PU foam blanks in the same time.

I don’t know if they could be CNC’d but that would be a big help…

Over flex is a big,big problem.

As Oneula states shaping and glassing them is next to impossible.Polyethlylene is a better blank for structure and shaping but again getting anything to stick to it for any length of time is very frustrating…Glassing with new age polymers might be an option.I didn’t go that far ,I’d spent way too much time and money on the couple rejects I did produce, but I’m sure with the right knowledge, materials, money and time… it can be done.

RichardL spoke of some new advanced blanks ,and he sure would be the man to get some answers from, that is if he’s willing to share with you/us.He sounds like the guy that has put some time into his craft, and has come up with a stronger blank.Herb

understatement of the CENTURY!!! Richard is sooo incredibly dialed in it’ll knock your socks off. i’ve talked with him extensively over the last several weeks, and this guy’s just on a whole 'nother level. i ordered 4 blanks in his foam – longboard, shortboard, fish, and bonzer. i figure i’ve got all the bases covered with that kinda variety. they should be here in a couple weeks. will report back about how it shapes, glasses, and rides.
