Polystyrene foam advise

Hi  to all,

i am in the process of gathering materials together to make a skimboard. I have made 2 trips to home depot and lowes.

I almost purchased the pink stuff ( extruded polystyrene), but i heard that it degasses and causes the board to delaminate.

IS THIS TRUE?

So i looked for expanded polysyrene and found it in the thickness i need, which is 3/4". The only problem is that it is rated at 1 lb density per sq inch and i heard that i would want either 2 or 3 lbs density per sq inch.

IS THIS ALSO TRUE?

just wondering what ppl on here have used and how it has worked out for them.

thank you

NOt sure where your from… but White Cap has 2# EPS.

Or… you could use the 1# and vacume bag Balsa top and bottom (super strong!).  Use 1/4" Cherrywood for perimeter stringers.

See the other Alaia thread.  I have a few composite alaia boards on there to give you an idea.

Les

ps - Sorry - - Question 1 - Yes XPS (pink/blue foam) is rumored to delam.

2 - If you glass the 1# with 3x4oz. top and bottom should be fine.  Or balsacomp as I said

                                           above…lighter and much better looking!
