Here's the latest Stingray EPS / Epoxy longboard !!!!!!!
hey ray,
if you ding it up enough you’ll have a balsa (patch) board.

I got distracted...........started making tailblocks.....
...
Hi Ray,
Nice progress photos, looks like the board will turn out real sweet. I did something similar with balsa, as John mentioned above.
Had to be inventive as im still saving for a vac pump!
Beware tail blocks are addictive!, and a real good way to use up all the small offcuts!
Below is the balsa deck PU, pic taken just after Lam done…
Nice board Nocean....
I hot coated the Poorman Compsand today....Poly resin stinks!!!! Ha ha...
I like working with poly but expoy is better at keeping me under the radar....no smell = no complaints.....
IT's ALIVE,....It'S LivE!!

Thanks Keith.....I'll come by after Christmas...too much going on right now.....
OK I finished the project...
The deck got one layer of 4 oz cloth going out about 2 inches past the wood and one layer of 4 oz cloth completely wraping the rails....top and bottom got hot coated and power sanded with my new Random Orbital sander from the Home Depot.....
Paint ??? ....Spray Bomb....Yeah, some times you just have to go for it !!!!!
I masked the stringer and the logo on the bottom and sprayed a few light coats of "off white" ...When all the bad stuff was covered I peeled off the tape and sprayed on some simi gloss clear.......
The rails got painted with Bright Red................
The next day I masked off for the pin line.....I did it all free hand.......then off to work at the real job....
...So now it's almost midnight on Tuesday night....I start to spray the black and the can starts to sputter and spit....not good....so I dig around looking for a dark color to use as a base...I've got light blue , yellow , pink ,orange...oh wait !!! this will work... Purple!!!.. I know there's a Deep Purple CD around here some where.....No time to waste...Led Zepplin is already in the CD player...Crank it up !!!!!
Two coats of purple...wait 10 min.....one solid coat of black oh yeah....Space Truck'en...come on!
Fricken Bitchen. This thread makes nothing seem impossible. The hybrid theory deffinately applies here.
That looks great. I really like the paint work. Im a big fan of salvaging and reusing boards -- even though they may be a bit heavier and a bit stiffer at least they are not in the landfill.
FYI - I did a smaller (about 4.5') / similar repair to a LB deck back in 2008 and it has been bullet proof. I only replaced the big delam area in the middle of the board -- kind of like a big knee paddle patch. Done over an old buckle and delam with 2oz under the balsa and 4 oz over. The thread is somewhere here on sways but the photos are gone.
Also did a smaller balsa patch on another board in a big deck delam area that was spreading like a disease. On that one I went with Gorilla Glue and no glass under the balsa so it would foam and fill the voids in the rough foam. Put a single 6oz on top and it also has held up great. That board recently broke adjacent to the balsa and the balsa did not separate from the foam but the glass easily tore off the foam on the other side of the break. Im considering gluing the board back together, stripping off the old glass and redoing the deck with balsa so that I can reuse the board. Besides its fun to break out the vacuum bag gear every once in awhile.
If I do it - I definately follow your lead with the painting -- nice, very nice.
yoyo
so cool!
looks absolutely buti-ful, yeah!
now ride it and tell us if the stifness is a good thing!

looks great - but where’s the “mods by Stingray” logo?
We’ll be around over the holidays, swing by & grab more balsa - I’m happy to see it used so well! And we’ll go for a surf too!
