Anyone know what the maximun size for a photo in a post can be?
300 KB is supposedly the maximum file size, though a JPG that size is going to be very wide ( past the side of your screen) , very tall ( likewise bigger than your screen size) and will eat more of Mike’s bandwidth than is really necessary.
If it’s not a JPG format graphic ( BMP, TIFF, a proprietary digital camera format or something like that) , it’s using too much file size anyways, so try a freeware image editor like Irfanview or XNView ( both available through the more popular shareware sites like www.tucows.com ) to save it as a JPG. Both will also let you resize/resample it to smaller image size ( over 800 pixels wide will be more than , lower resolution and colors which will make the file size considerably less. Your digital camera software package may also do the same thing.
The GIMP is the graphics software of choice for Linux or Mac OSX, and to my knowledge there is no good freeware image editors for older mac OSs.
hope that’s of use
doc…
thanks, i’ll save it as a JPEG in photoshop and try that.
Use the “Save for Web” feature in Photoshop, you can select just about any size (bytes) file you want… either by altering the physical size of the photo or by manipulating the resolution. You can also see the results so you’re sure to pick the optimal reduction method.
You can save to JPG or GIF… both are compact and efficient. JPG has a lot more colors and is continuous - it’s designed for photos and complex graphix, but doesn’t handle simple thin lines very well - save the simple stuff as a .GIF
200kb.
As Doc says, try to keep them under 650 pixels wide.
