Post Pictures of your latest project - what ya been working on?

Lowell, I have had no luck with epoxy tints.  how does it look in detail?  Atomized used to post here and had it wired.

all the best

This thread is the all time best Sways thread. It’s what it’s all about for me.  Building stuff in your own yard for your own amusement.

I love gunkie’s story.

Ding, the glitter board is gay but who gives a shit. I’m sure you don’t. Still using your planer and loving it.

Stingray does professional quality epoxy tint glass, etc looking stuff. Check it out.  From his low tech lab.  I’ve seen it with my own eyes.  Mike

oh hey man sorry I negelected to reply, but this is helpful, and pretty traight forward.

thats an awesome idea!

how on earth did you come you with that, streamers  extra point!

Really dig those shapes V.  Radical and very well done.  Lowel

Yeah I guess David Bowie might have been too.  But damn;  some feiggin’ great musack.  Lowel

That’s a great story gunk.  I wouldn’t ever let thAt board go.  That is a true “Magic Board”.  Lowel

agreed

Greg-- I just treated it exactly as I would Poly. Without Fear.  I wanted coke bottle green on the bottom.  So I added a little more Rev-Chem green than I would have for Poly…  I wanted thee deck Dark and Opaque.  So I put a small amount of white in my resin and then loaded that up with green.  The hardest part was the cut laps .  I didn’t time the set right.  Pulled a litte foam on the deck and the Opaque was kinda wet when I cut it.  L

It came out surprisingly even.  I stirred well.  No eraser sized dark spots.  The thing I learned is that you got to go easy sanding the laps.  Better to press them down and only knock down the edge with a block.  Sanding too much creates a blotchy tint.  L

Yes I think Ray is on the downhill side of the curve when it come to color work in Epoxy.

thanks mcding. I’m pretty happy with how they turned out. followed your directions more closely and the hotcoat turned out better on the red one. they are a nug template from blending curves but i added the diamond tail

Couple new boards. Both made afrom a single sheet of 3" thick Blue Dow XPS foam.

5-3 fish about 21" wide 2.5" thick. I copied the rocker from my Griffin fish. Made the fins from a sheet of G10, double foiled. I have a set of G10 fins Griffin made for my brother’s 6’2" fish, but they are bigger and single foiled, so I made a smaller set double foiled. Used colored epoxy and added a rattle can spray. I hope the sharks don’t like that color combo.

I also made a board a while ago, a very low rocker about 7’ x 21" maybe 2.5" thick. Simple and cheap as as can be. $10 for the foam, glass from ebay, very cheap, but turned out to be flawed. You can see the dark marks that are in the glass. I think I payed about a dollar a yard for 50" wide 8 oz glass. Lesson learned… if the price is too good, it’s probably a bad deal.

Took the fish out last weekend, after being out of the water for about 3 weeks. Had a very hard time catching waves, and took 3 to figure out how to ride it. Once I got it figured out it went pretty good. The damned things flies along, but it does those really quick spin type cutbacks. I was worn out paddling that little thing. Today, I tried the 7 footer and I had a blast. Paddled much better than the little fish and it was very loose. It has low rocker, but it’s an even rocker, so the tail has a good amount. I was very happy with the way it rides. I think another one just like it, but with a tad bit more nose rocker especially in the last 6 inches will be a great board. I made the fin for different board, but I tweaked the foil today, and I think it made the fin much better. I think I left too much meat in the tip when I made it. Have to stick it back in the other board and see how it feels.
