Speaking of Kevin Platt…I have a recently made 7’6" Cord logo “Acid drop” which has a concave nose with a v-bottom tail, 50/50 rails, glassed on single which was shaped by Chops Lascelle with resin swirl and glassing done at Hayden’s which is a km from my place.
Like listening to Humphrey’s stories of the early days of Hayden’s and the crew who worked there.
Just waiting on the SW’ers to blow to smooth out this swell to put the little 6’2" Keane through its paces.
Next time I’m down the Goldie I’d like to drop in and see some of your boards.
I know this is a post ur pics thread but i noticed a lot of questions about bondoing(is that a word?) pressure dings on the bottom of ur hull. No one really gave much for answers so i decided to put up a little how to. While its fairly easy, there are a couple things that need to be paid attention to. First getting the right stuff. Regular car bondo or all purpose bondo wont do. It will eventually soak up water. I went to Crystaliner in Costa Mesa and picked up 3M lightweight marine body filler.
Besides that you need all this stuff in the first pic. Make sure to get all the different grades of sandpaper and something to smooth out the bondo.
After you have all the stuff prep the board with coarse sandpaper. Then mix ur bondo to the specs on the back. Work fast because it will get hard on you. Put board in sun to harden faster. Once hard then you can begin sanding. Working from coarse to fine sandpaper. And laslty ending with a wetsand. I found that the foam sanding blocks work great in getting it even.
Doesnt look that pretty but what hull does. Im sure the guy I bought this board from on this site is cringing right now. Sorry, but i hate leashes.(Good day at Swamis until this happened) Anyways, that was pretty longwinded but hopefully it helps some of the other guys out.
I’lll probably see Chops this weekend in Cornwall and will get him to have a look at this post . Then I will ply him with a few beers and wallow in some stories. He shaped me a lovely Acid Drop .
