Posting Pictures the Low Bandwidth Way

There are a lot of guys here with pictures we all NEED to see, but the process can be daunting, and even with http://www.shrinkpictures.com, Swaylocks bandwidth is getting used when it doesn’t need to be, so here’s a proposed sticky for posting pics without tears and without using our favorite website’s bandwidth resources:

Go to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/

Get Firefox–loads quick, no pain, no strain

Go to http://www.photobucket.com – start an account there–easy

  1. upload a picture to Photobucket–easy

  2. open that pic with Firefox

  3. right click on it to isolate the pic on its own page (“View Image”) with its own URL

  4. copy the URL

  5. come to Swaylocks–post a reply or start a thread

  6. press the Image button () on the post markup screen–a field for the URL of your pic comes up–delete the http thing and paste your URL in–push Submit

(* Opening multiple tabs with Firefox is accomplished thus: Ctrl + T (repeat as desired) – post your 10-pic build post in seconds with your photobucket pics in multiple tabs–drag and drop them straight from your account page onto tabs)

  1. see your pics in your post
  • The 2 websites I mention here are free and Firefox is faster than IE, blocks pop-ups, has a lot of add-ons that are great, can open multiple tabs which speeds up posting pics and all sorts of other internet use applications, and is constantly improved–I’ve been using it for a couple of years and there is absolutely NO way I would go back to IE.

I don’t know of any compromises inherent to these sites – I haven’t experienced any problems whatsoever, and I don’t work for these guys – just trying to help the Sways brethren and sistren

If swaylock is worried about bandwidth then the attachment option should be all together thrown out the window. Time for the dinosaurs to catch up with the times and go the rout of free internet hosting.

People often recommend Photobucket, when there’s an even simpler way.

If you upload your pics to http://tinypic.com, you don’t have to bother creating an account. You just upload, copy the url from the box that says “image link for forums”, and use the image link button when posting. They allow video uploads, too. Plus, files that are too big get re-sized.

Tony, thanks for that–I’ll try tinypic. Do you use Firefox?

As one of the many photo post impaired geezers out here, thanks.

When I have a spare six hours or so, I’ll actually try to do it. At least now

I have instructions.

Mike

It doesn’t take that long, ya geezer! ; )

Hey guys, on tinypic, you get the tag for the pic handed to you so you just paste the code tag into your message, but you can’t see the actual picture until you look at your post posted. That’s a preference thing. The resize didn’t work exactly perfect on the wave pic above either, as you have to pan to read all the text for posts in this thread now.

Also, with Photobucket, your pics are all kept together, in your account. I do like that. They allow video upload too.

It worked! Thanks Jank…

Tasty pic, PD.

Any votes to sticky this info?

easier to use the attachment method.

Lee, good shot of the spot, I’ve been there . . . well . . .

I saw Rell, and ahh, man smiles all around. The duck diving ones not so bad either but lately sworn off girls, chasing poon has gotten me in trouble. Yes a few months from now, back to chasin’ again.
