Printed quad fish.

I keep lurking th forum but post just at times…

I’m not gonna post every board I finish eventhough I’m proud of some nice pices.

(all new board come in the gallery (just pictures, no french blahblah involved): http://www.barrelsurfboards.com/photobox1 )

That one is special.

The colours have not been sprayed or painted or resin tinted.

They have been printed on a 2oz cloth, then laminated, cut laped.

The board have just been glassed as normal after that, 4+4 deck and 4 bottom.

I appoligiez for Lokbox (and others) who may think the board would have deserved some speed dialers but the owner has a FCS sponsorship and is not allowed to go with something else.

Printed roving:

Finished board: 5’8" x 20" x 2"3/8

That’s pretty cool! My wife likes your graphic.

Please tell us more about printing on the 2oz.

special glass?

printer or process used?

ink?

other considerations?

links to materials, equipment?

Thanks,

Hein

Lob,

I’ve got to say that everytime I see a new post from you I go straight to it and am never disappointed. Beautiful board, cool technique and a big hooray for hand crafting.

I do the same. Awesome. Hey, how did that small single fin go ??

Lob has the “eye.” Not everyone has it. I’ve never seen a board of his on this forum that didn’t look right on. Great work.

Very cool! I’ve seen boards that have a printed fabric layer to do this, but never printed glass! That adds beauty and strength!

Special glass: no, classic but 2oz only.

Printer is a big “flat” machine able to print up to 1m large pannels.

It’s an inkjet machine.

The guy who provided me the fiber charges 50€ (65US$ or 85AU$) for up to 2 meters.

That fiber must be laminated first and cut laped clean.

You can’t dress a whole board with it because of angles, folds and cuts.

There are absolutely no limits as far as graphics are involved… you can create what ever you like with a program like photoshop, illustrator and so on…

I believe it could be done to print anyplace in the world but i also guess shiping a printed cloth is possible…

I could ask.

About weight and strengh:

The board is a 2oz printed and then 4+4oz deck and 4oz bottom.

It’ll be a bit stronger and still light board.

I shaped Teccel foam on that one and i really like to work with that foam so far. It’s a white, accurate average weighted foam.

Lob, thank you very much for telling us. its inspiring and helpful.

keep up the great work.

cheers,

Josh.

I can buy camo print and other weird stuff straight off the roll from a supplier near me, but not custom stuff!

Great graphic.

Now, whos gunna try backing 2oz to some paper and running it through their inkjet, just like a rice paper lam?

I would, but i’m out of ink.

Any takers?

Kit

I guess you can give a try if the printer takes the sheet straight and does not U-turn it.

The fiber sheet may not be stiff enough otherwise …

Ya man, find out if he is willing to print and ship? I’d definately be interested

Thanks for sharing your board, its great!
