Does anyone know what type of printer to use when printing on the clear laminating graphics sheets? I want to make sure it wont bleed when I put resin over it. Thanks Nick

Thanks>>> Nick Nick - I just went through the whole drill and it was a royal pain - everything kept bleeding. My experiences were that (i) the toner in my HP (black) laserjet for some reason bled, (ii) the ink (black) from a HP deskjet didn’t bleed; and (iii) the colored ink from an Epson (? model) didn’t bleed. If you can, go with a printer like the Epson that has a “direct feed” (i.e., the paper feeds in and comes out without going through a bunch of rollers) - otherwise it can be tough to get the lam paper to stay flat.

The tape trick sounds great. My epson 850 does fine.>>> Best, Rich Try a gluestick just run it around the edges of a piece of stock paper then lay the rice paper down its quicker and cleaner than tape. 3m spraymount works good also.
You just need to gluestick/tape the leading edge of the paper(computer print paper works fine),and the rice paper doesn’t even have to be cut really clean or even.It just has to be within the size of the print sheet.Herb

Thanks>>> Nick I do alot of lams ( 100 to 200 ) a month, I have an Epson C80 printer with durabrite ink. The reason your lams are bleeding is your ink is probably alcohol based, you need a water base ink to prevent bleeding. I also have a lexmark printer that works really good but the colored ink fades where as durabrite ink in the Epson will not fade and it’s also waterproof. Both printers take the rice paper without having to tape or glue them to a piece of paper. I use a lot of red ink so having separate color cartidges is a plus also. With the right printer and a little practice you should have no problems. ALoha, Kokua FIberglass
Kokua- Are the durabrite inks available as a refill option from larger office supply chains or are these specialty inks/cartridges used in the printing industry? Just wondering where to look for it and if other cartridges could be refilled with this type ink. Thank you Tom Sterne>>> I do alot of lams ( 100 to 200 ) a month, I have an Epson C80 printer with > durabrite ink. Epson uses a different type of print head in their printers. Durabrite inks are an archival ink that is waterproof and UV resistant. I did some research and found it was best to buy the C80 printer. I think www.lysonic.com is the web site that can give you more info on archival inks and refill kits or try the Epson web site. I don’t do ink refills any more because the ink is inferior( dye inks ) and will fade out pretty fast, and can screw with your printer. I buy my ink from Dell, they’re the Epson catridges but cheaper than buying from Epson and they deliver by Fedex for free. My lexmark printer uses pigment ink for black which is fade proof, but the color ink is dye ink and it fades. The Epson C80 costs about $140.00 After rebate, that’s not that expensive for a printer that gets top ratings in printer reviews. If a person takes the time to design a nice laminate for their board it should last as long as the board does.Good Luck Aloha, Kokua Fiberglass
