Priorities

Took a look out my window on Sunday morning and saw the sky a color I’ve never seen before; blood red. The smell of a thousand campfires filled the house. Flicked on the TV and saw the neighborhood north of us was going up in flames. We started packing the cars with pictures, important papers, some art work, my guitars some clothes, the wife, daughter and dog. Every time I walked downstairs and passed Alex’s unglassed edge, I thought, “What a shame we didn’t get it finished”. I looked up at my boards in the garage and figured, oh well I can always make more. And then I realized that there was something else that had to come with us. They let us back in this morning. Fortunately, nothing more than a thick covering of ashes had hit the house. We were lucky, some of our friends didn’t fare as well. We unpacked the cars and started to settle back in. My wife pulled the last box out of the Jeep and asked, “What the hell are these?”. She was pointing at 16 masonite templates, 40 years worth of carefully contemplated curves. She smiled and said “No, nevermind. I know what they are…” Thoughts and prayers to all of you that are being affected by the fires…KP, Matt, Spence, you all ok?

right now spence and i are ok-as of this am one of the fires was knockin’ on the door to Kp’s 'hood.not a good thing no matter where you look…thanks for imquiring and good to hear you and the family made it relatively unscathed. Matt

Having experienced first hand the ravages of a house fire, my most sincere and empathetic feelings go out to any and all victims of these fires… When it came time for us to get out of our burning house, the only thing that was important to get out, was us…Material things are just that… A fire will cause you to re-evaluate your priorities…That can be a very good thing… Paul http://www.hollowsurfboards.com

I’m glad you made it back to your home Lee. If it’s worth anything, the fog is back up here. I hope things settle down soon. The Piru (Ventura County)fire is now 8 miles from Santa Paula.
