Seriously, what could be so private?
The private messages are generally stuff non-board-design related, or just plain personal, or in other words… none of our business.
It should be used a lot more, as there are many people here, like myself, who only want to learn more about board manufacturing and design.
For me swaylocks is a board design forum, not a chat room.
i have an opinion on this too…check your PM and i’ll fill you in…

Seriously, PM’s allow for a deeper connection between Swaylockers and a more indepth exchange of information, that may or may not relate to sufboare building etc.
For instance, I learned all about West Oz from a very cool Swaylocker. One PM just led to another. More knowledge and deeper understanding of each other.
It’s not bad, it does not get in anyone;s way, or inhibit open exchange of knowledge at all.

personally , I’m always stoked to get and send private messages to people . It’s how we keep in touch on a daily basis , and get to know each other and what our surf spots are like …among other things , like having contacts to stay with , or being able to send / receive things …
The deal I made with a fellow Swaylock member to glass a board is private. The phone conversation I had with Pete C. was arranged through PM. I got some very good insite and info from Pete.
I’ve also talked with my friend Chip Fish via PM. Wonder how much a phone call from California to Down Under would cost.
It’s O K not to use PM. But some of us like it.

the MCI International phone cards for sale at Costco are dirt cheap for international calling… Australia is $0.07 min… perfect example of a message could go via PM
when it is used up you can use it as a wax scraper (now it is surfing related)
skype ( www.skype.com) is 2 cents US ( .017 euros) per minute, and if the other guy has skype too, it’s free. Have friends in NZ and Australia I talk to regularly.

Plus, ringing… if you guys get the time difference wrong , for some reason we don’t like getting woken up here at 2 am on a .2 degree morning to answer the phone …

“private messages” are the only place where you can use humour , say outrageous things to your friends , act in a totally idiotic fashion , have fun , and well …let your hair down , and just generally run amuck …without getting evicted !!
