Probox Cant Inserts Jammed

So after surfing my board about 5 times I love the board, fins, and the probox fin system. I will never use another system for various reasons. However, this problem happened to me for a couple weeks and now is happening to someone else I know that just installed probox fins. (his install went very smoothly as well). When we tried to take out the cant inserts they seemed to be “jammed” and not able to be taken out. There is not any resin in the space between the finbox and the cant insert. Just wondering if anybody has any suggestions on how to get the inserts free from the finbox easily if it is possible. Thanks!

Howzit snap10, I have installed my share of Proboxes and never seen or heard of this happening. One thing that comes to mind is if you tightened the screws to tight there might be some of the plastic from the threads jammed between the box and the insert. I would find the smallest, thinest screw driver and see if you can pry the insert out at the front or rear,be gentle and but break anything. Have you tried PMing Handshaper or Probox Larry, they should be able to help.Aloha,Kokua

thanks alot, ill let the guy know to give that a try.

Pull the screws all the way out and then put a fin back in. Flush it with fresh water. Pull, push, twist, and lean on the fin enough and the insert will come out with the fin & its base (or tabs). It’s happened to me many times, and its always been just dried salt.

back the screws out all the way, and either a) put a fin into the slot and wiggle until the insert comes out or b) insert a small screwdriver or similar tool into the screw hole from the slot side, and lift.

Unless you managed to glue the insert into the box somehow, that should get it out. Sometimes they are a bit snug but I’ve never had one not removable.

be carefull when wipeing with acetone in prep for gloss coat

I stuck one with acetone but it did come out

like all have said, remove screws and wobble with the fin in it

Hey,

I’ve had a couple where a tiny amount of resin seeped inbetween the box and the insert when just using tape to seal off. Just the smallest amount will make them stick, may not be able to see it until the inserts come out.

Just put the fin in with no screws and carefully wiggle, twist, and turn it. Eventually it always comes out. If you use tape and putty to seal the inserts it will keep all resin out for sure. Works great.

Rick.

the inserts are very snug in the box so if it is still a bit wet it may simply be suction holding it in, the advice given should yield the best results, wiggle wiggle pop…

Hey Snap10,

Did the advice given above work for you?

Which method did the trick?

Thanks!

Yes the “fin wiggle trick” worked for me eventually. Thanks! I still haven’t heard from the other guy but he snapped 2 cant inserts by trying to use a screwdriver to pry them out. I bet the fin wiggle will work for him too though.

try it with warm water.

snap-10, glade to see everything worked out with the insert situation. Would help out but it sounds like the guys did a good job as always, thanks guys. Your suggestions were exactly some of the things I would have said.
