I made my first fin today … well, I still have to glass it, but when I wiped it down I took a pic in case my glass job is a disaster
I also put my racks together. I built a set of uprights from scrap and mounted them to a set of out-feed roller stands. After my first round of putting planer to foam, I am very pleased. They’re height adjustable and pretty stable. 20 bucks each and converting them back to outfeed rollers takes about 2 min.
That is a handsome piece of wood. You might not want to have the wood extend into the tab, where it could absorb water, after being pierced by the screw hole. Same for the front pin. As I said, good looking wood, and you did a nice job shaping it.
Thanks man… no, I have not tested maple/epoxy, but I don’t anticipate any problems. I will however post my results early this week.
Right now I’m trying to get a board ready for a nice long vacation in CR, but when I return in early march, I plan on making several more fins out of a variety of coolish woods… bloodwood, yellow-heart, purple-heart, padauk, madrone and lacewood. Some problems are bound to creep up in that pile
Later I’ll posta pic of some lightly spalted quilted maple that came out of a woodpile.
thanks again…

Who just found out that “EPS foam dust” can also be pronounced “grounds for divorce”… wierd huh?

Dude, now why didn’t I think of that! I’ll be able to use them at work as well, and they’ll be tax deductible! Ah ,the beauty of Sway’s. .
I had heard that there were only TWO kinds of people. Those that MAKE dust, and those that EAT dust. Either way, you want to be the first one mentioned on the list, eh?
