Protecting Paint Pen Art

I know this has been covered before in the archives, but I’ve seen lots of conflicting and/or old opinions and I’d appreciate some simple, up-to-date advice.

I just finished a board for a friend, sanded epoxy hot coat to 220. (Actually I sanded to 100, did a second thinner hotcoat to cover burnthroughs, then sanded smooth w/220). His kids are going to do artwork using water-based paint pens (Garden Craft). So my question:

What is the best acrylic spray to use to seal/protect the artwork? I don’t have airbrush equipment so I’d prefer spray can. Krylon seems to have several different types of “Crystal Clear Acrylic” spraypaints, so I’d appreciate a specific recommendation if you have one.

Also, how many coats should I apply, and should I sand or scotch-brite between coats and/or on the final coat?

Thanks very much for any help.

Howzit Jamie, Krylon makes a triple thickness spray that works great, just watch that you keep the spray can moving or it will orange peel. Aloha,Kokua

Thanks, Kokua. For better or worse, I got anxious and went out and bought this yesterday. If this is a bad idea, I could always return it.

Howzit Jamie, Never seen that one but since it is UV resistant it should do the job just fine.Aloha,Kokua
