when doing pinlines with spray, or ink…when is the best time to pull the tape, when it’s completely dry, or just a little tacky…
i’m guessing dry??
I pull tape ASAP because otherwise, that’s more time for the resin to seek out imperfections in your prep, sanding, sealing, whatever, and bleed under the tape. I pull tape ASAP b/c there’s no reason to leave it on any longer. I pull tape ASAP because if the resin gets too thick it will cling in little hairs to the tape then drop onto the board. Not supremely difficult to remove, but a hassle to be sure. I pull tape ASAP so the thick pinline resin doesn’t get hard over the tape. I pull tape ASAP so the edge of the resin will tend, by virtue of cohesion, to flow together and minimize irregularities in the edge. Preparation is all important. I like 220 wet sanding, the right 3M tape, and a thin smear of clear, catalyzed lam resin to seal the tape before the color goes on.
