Quad Fin Longboard

I have been on the look out for a used  quad fin longboard for a while. I finally found one but it has some quirky design characteristics. It's shaped by John Tacbian of Ukulele surfboards and I have tried calling him but no luck. The board is a 9'2 EPS board. It has a blunt  nose with some concave on the bottom that  it leads into some channels that run down the board and taper off into the concave on the last couple feet. I am really curious about the channels. I know they used to be pretty common on shortboards but a quad fin longboard...why? Any ideas how they are going to help the performance of the board?

Thanks!
