quad fish size?

It seems like people are riding quads a few inches longer then they ride twin keels. Why is this?

I don’t know about other’s , but mine is the SAME board, just with enough plugs so I can use BOTH setups…

Quads give better hold than twins and allow for a bit narrower tail. With those two considerations you start to think racier outlines and bigger waves and add to the length. I have a 6’6" quad fish that has soo much hold. I actually thinking about a sub-6’ quad and make the board looser.

I recently started riding a 5’10 x 20" Mandala quad, which I would say is pretty close to the absolute minimum in terms of size for a board for me. It has way less volume than my 6’0 twin fin fish. Just from my experience on the quad, I would say that a bigger version could definitely rip in bigger surf. As a side note, my Mandala quad is currently in the running for best board that I’ve ever ridden.

jeffrey11,what is the thickness of your mandala and is it the bumptail or the wide-tail. Also interested in how much you weigh and your height?

Its the bump tail and I’m around 5’7 and 160. I’ll have to get back to you on the thickness - it definitely is not as thick as a more traditional fish, more like a modern thruster in that respect.

Thanks,interested because I ordered 5’10" by 20.5" by 2 3/8 bumptail and am 150lb and 5ft 10"

150 5’11

5’11 Mandala canard quad

5’8 Mandala twin keel

Both boards work great…

5’11" and 180 - 5’9" bump tail quad - floats my fat ass ok!
