Just about to hit the water with my new board.I have shaped a few boards (6) but this is my 1st QuadFish. As I am 85kg & close to 50 I have tried to keep volume up for Float & Paddle however ,I have also tried to design a Board with some Preformance features such as lower rails in case I improve ? (Maybe I'm dreaming ).The board has single to double concave & is 6.3" X 211/4 X 3 1/4.Please feel free to comment as this is my first Post.Cheers Troy
nice! i like the idea of the step down rails. i did a board for my brother with my interpretation of those. i found it hard to make 'em look smooth. yours look good tho... i'm laughing at your fake honeycomb fins too. cool
Took the Fish out today & it flies.Great Hold & turns really sharp.I need to surf it more to give a better report but am Stoked so far.The fins are hand foiled & I tried to keep with the same theme as the rails (Artwork).Fins worked Great but for so reason I could hear a nose from under my back foot (Fin area) as I bottom turned.Anyone got any idea what that might be ?
Fins humming...check the archives - there's loads of comments and advice...you can sand the trailing edge off a little so it's not so sharp - that ususally cures it...my very first twin keel fish that I made with hand foiled plywood fins had the same issue - but I left it as I kind of like the audible 'alarm' that lets me know when I'm going really fast...

Cheers Rich.I kind of dont mind it but was worried that I had made a blue some where ie Fin placement , type of fin or cant. Thanks for the info will check out link.
how did you shape the step down rails? i did it once with the old coffee can with holes punched in it to make a rasp
and what prompted you to put them on a board so small?
Rails shaped by hand ,slowly hand sanded to desired profile.Reason for step is I wanted Volume (40plus Litres)to Float my 85kg but wanted to stay Short. The Quad fish design was Short ,wide & semi pointed nose (For duckdiving)& could carry this Volume ,the only problem for me was the Boxy rails .I tried to solve this by putting in the step.(Like a 7S but with High preformance type Rails) There were many hours of reading through posts & links on this site but I found very little information .I'm sure that there are many Shapers that have designed boards using this theory ( I hope) or I may be I have totally messed this up.Please feel free to comment as I would be really intrested in other shapers thoughts.Cheers
Nice board and great design concept. This is one I did that’s 2 3/4" thick but with the step deck and low volume rails make the board surf like it’s 2 1/8" thick. This is a 5’11.

Thanks for the feed back.As a newbie shaper its great to get input from Guys like you who Really know what they are doing. The photo of your Bat tail step rail looks Wicked.Low rocker .wide nose & tail.Love the outline. Please let me know how it Surfs as I'm very intrested in any feedback. Are you currently working on this board or is it one you have shaped in the past ?.Cheers Troy
