quad question

hey all ive been checking out a few different quads lately and have a quick question:

what
are the performance differences when the fins are placed closer
together with roughly 1" overlap and further back on the board? verse a placement with no overlap, or even a space between fins, and having the front fins further up the board? see image below

One difference I noticed with the rear fins pulled closer towards the center line was that the board could drive vertical up the face of the wave.  The rear fins further out rode more like a twin fin, side to side.

Fins further up tend to have more wiggle and less drive.  These are just general statements / observations, rails, bottoms, plain shape, rockers and foil all come into play to.
