just amazing !
How’s things Brett??
I got a small quad for Christmas that has a camera attachment,I’m practicing on that before I can move up to the ones that can get footage like in that video…
That can be such an amazing tool for a photographer
BTW I finally got a gopro so There may finally be some decent shots of that other thing soon too …
Hi Dave I got a second hand standard helicopter and I hung a GoPro under it but it’s not steady enough for filming…or maybe I’m flying it wrong! Those quads look great but over here you have to be registered to use the bigger ones in certain areas as they could hurt people or be flown into aircraft space.
I’m still doing “that other thing” too as well as shaping a prone board from a slab of Pawlownia and a few fin experiments.
Looking forward to any pics or video you get of the foils or anything else… How did the car restoration go ?
…holy flying surf movies , batman !
thanks for posting that ‘Vimeo’ , Brett !
that there is some beautiful lighting , interesting angles , lovely looking waves !
INTERESTING devices …
cheers !

The internets abuzz at the moment with the prospect of using drones to deliver Pizza, beer or books but there will be other benefits like using drones to drop life vests to people in trouble in the surf or mobile phones and medication to people in trouble in remote areas.
If someone falls off a cliff they can send down a drone to video the site and then deliver resources until a rescue team gets there. Getting a drone out to someone drowning could take about 30 secs.
Hey Brett,
You’re right hoverable drones may prove to be usefull in many ways we haven’t even thought of yet.
There may well be more rules set here too for public safety.
I just watched a video of a rather large octocopter spazing out over a crowd and making a beeline straight into a mans face,
Remarkably his injuries weren’t too bad, but it looked scary as hell…
Ben, I also noticed the exellent photography in addition to the wonder of the unique perspective that the quad enables…
This is a vid posted by a fellow second lighter of our local pier, it lacks the splendor of Hawaii but I thought it was pretty cool anyway…
I just had an illumination
as I was breezing through this thread.
see the grain of this piece od beautiful palowinia?
this was milled I believe what they call ‘slash’ milling
where they maximise the amount of wide wood from the process .
the grain down the middle is fragile and subject to splitting.
the karate board breaking demos prefer these type boards
as this splitting alows a predictable result.
to rip this slab down the center and moving the centers
to the edge and the closer or tight grain to the middle
and bonding with a contrasting stringer would add
rail banding ease and vertical grain down the center,
perhaps stiffening the board perhaps, but averting
the heart break of ‘spit - wood - board - itus’
if epoxy glassing swell ,but if just oiling
then your glue choice would be critical
as the lam could also fail…
…ambrose…
a beautiful piece of tree skeleton
may it last for centuries.
Dave, always keen to read and learn more about our shared interest. Anytime you’ve got something to show or talk about please Email me or drop a line here.
The best I can work out with the foils is that its a smoother ride on all waves because you’re riding in the wave not on it,
but only faster than a standard surfboard on bigger waves when it’s reduced drag kicks in.
Still, it’s an amazing ride on any wave.
ambrose, I was thinking about doing a standard flat paipo with the Pawlownia but I might give it a modern planshape and hybrid it with an XPS block scarfed on for added nose rocker.
