Question about Fin performance in certain conditions

I scoured the archives for an answer to this and was only able to find info on the fin configuration itself; nothing detailed or informative about which fins to use and when.

I recently bought a Hynson Twinzer, 6-2. I have the Futures TW1 twinzers and the new Futures K1 Keels. I have no experience with either; strictly rode thrusters and singles up to this point.

The majority of my surfing is done in Fla. But I do take trips to Costa Rica every year and can’t wait to use this board there. Which fins?? Keels?? Twinzers??

Thanks for any and all feedback.

how about you bring both and try them out?

Of course, but there’s nothing like a little intel before hand.

“Chance favors the prepared mind”

Without seeing the board it’s kind of hard to give fin advice.

Photos?

Specs?

Details of board configuration?

Sorry, no picts of mine. Mike’s site has it, same board dimension wise. http://www.michaelhynsonsurfboards.com/surfboards.html Select the Twinzer Model.

Board dimensions are:

6’2"

16 1/8 nose

21 1/2 wide

17 1/8 tail

2 1/2 thick

Standard Hynson downrail, and pretty severe at that.

Me:

6’

185 lbs

Thanks for the feedback. Much Appreciated.

You board is sort of a combination of a traditional keel fin fish out line and the twinzer fin set-up that Wil Jobson created about 25 years ago. You may be able to get Wil’s templates from Future. His fin set up for this board will have fairl big fins. As I recall the canards are about 3.0" and slightly raked elipital outline. The main drive fin is about 5.325" is full based and fairly substantial. A board the size of yours will want some fairly big fins. The tail is pretty wide and needs the drive and holding power of bigger fins.

The Future Fin system Twinzer combo is a grand one. You might also ask Future about Joey Thomas’s twinzer fins and Vince Broglio’s as well. Choose the template you feel will work best for you.

Also: Curtis Hesselgrave http://www.transworldsurf.com/surf/surfbiz/article/0,19929,342284,00.html is doing some grand twinzer fin foils if you can get your hand on them. I don’t think that he’s employed by Future Fin Systems presently. He and Bill Bayne are working together I believe.

Anyway, look around. I hope these observations help.

No Worries, Rich

Rich, extremely useful info. Thanks for taking the time.

Thanks again!!

Curtis is working with Bill in San Clemente. You can find him there.

Wil is currently in Canada with his parents.
