This is more of a subjective question. I have a 5’10-22.3-3 twin keel that works very well for me in small, weak waves. It’s very full in the rails but somehow is very responsive as long as the wave is not too jucy (board does not get going so fast that it’s hard to control). I’m looking at getting a used board for a pretty good deal - Original channel islands twin keel. 5’10-21-2.75. I’m thinking this would maybe be a good choice for when the waves get a little more jucy, say lined up waist high to head high but with some push, controling the speed a little more at the head high range. I’m 6’2, 190 lbs and middle aged wearing hood and booties. The only reason I hesitating is wondering if I am in for a rude awakening when I get on the lower volume and more moderate rocker that the CI fish has. Does this sound doable? I’m just looking for a little perspective as I’m on the fence. I feel I can drop some volume and be ok,I just don’t want to be sitting up to my sternum in the water. Thanks for your thoughts!
the CI fish sounds perfect for your needs
Thanks for your response! I might have to take a chance on this one.
For that size wave I reckon paddle would be no issue, and certainly the finer rails and foil would work very well. I’m not a mass produced board fan, but as I was buying a new wetsuit the other day I saw a Channel Islands quad fish. I love fish and it looked very good, wasn’t white either haha
