Question about funboard/egg rocker

Beerfan Nice looking ride.  I have been looking at doing a board like that with pulled back wide point and fuller hips in something around 8"4 to 8'6'  Egg low rocker with channels and  a five fin set up, so i can play with some diffrent fin combinations.

…hello,

as Tblank answered

Hi 'Verb, Feliz Ano Nuevo.

Confessions from a backyard hack.......

I get a great deal on a blank from a company that's going out of business and work around their rocker....

or

I study the blank catalogs and find a blank that has the rocker I think I want.

I don't have the answer to the first poster's questions...I'm just a guy that rides orphans between 6'8" and 8'11".

…hello man, I hope that become a reality

thanks

looks like you got it sussed on the lower tail rocker for more drivce but I noticed in your post you described somewhat soft rails. I have been riding 8 footers with a good bit of rocker but hard boxey  full rais with great success. I fell the thick hard rail does not sink as easily and “pushes back” creating drivey feeling. Flat bottom with a verysmall amount of v in tail only. ssee pick below

Here’ s a board my sister’s friend let me have… I think it was 7’2" x 22", and wide point looked just a little forward… but the key points were: low rocker , convex bottom, pinched thin eggy rails, glass on semi long raked single fin that had flex…one of the best boards I ever owned! And it was free! My sister’s friend got it from a friend, she got a new board…anyway, I think you could build it in any fin combo, but aft riding it - board was perfect as a single so I wouldn’t change a thing. A note about the board: the board I’m not sure where from, but brand was William-Dennis, I’m not sure who shaped it? But whomever it was -Cheers to you! I surfed this board equally one spring/summer to my fav short board, but that egg felt even better. Maybe the slightly convexed bottom + pinched 50/50 rails and a sort of low rocker make it sing…I could take off on anything thrown at me, turn on a dime, trim on a high.line, come down,up again, down…pump, zig zag, zig zag, cut back, go it again-smack the lip hard! And keep going…Even if the wave was hollow but you could make everything…this is the truth, it happened, but it’s over. Board got stolen out of my yard -so somebody outhere has it now… at least I got a couple season’s out of it!? Good times.

My 8’0 has 4 and 2.25 and it is a real mush killer. I think the reason you don’t get a lot of projection is due to the lack of bottom contours. Mine has single concave in the nose to flat to deep double concaves with v at the side bites (it i also a 2 + 1). The double really allows you to plant into an out of turns, and the v allows for better rail to rail transition. This board also has a low rocker profile, but I do surf it in overhead waves (just not cranking barrels). Here is a pic of my buddy on it at Playa Hermosa, which is a fast hard breaking beach break.
