question about spraying clear acrylic

Hi.

I’ve taken to spraying my sanded boards with a clear acrylic (from the auto sparay shops) to bring up a good shine. The problem I’m having is that when the acrylic dries it is ever so slightly rough in some areas and absoloutly perfect in others.

I figure that I’m blasing to much air through the gun at during spraying and I’m not getting a 100% uniform distribution over the board.

On my 2nd attempt I used a larger quantity of acrylic and ensured that the board got a reall good covering . The problem with this was that I has small drops / drips of acrylic which I had t osand off a few days later.

Can anybody offer advice on how to do the perfect spray job with acrylic.

if you really have to use it , this is what to do …

get as much on as quick as possible ,the stuff dries so quick that it can leave you with furry over spray …

so clean even coverage ,turn your pressure right down and your paint volume right up …so it just falls on ,to much pressure and you force air into the clear…also to much pressure and it starts drying in the air before it even hits the job…

after youve done a clean even all over coat , add some more thinners and give it another coat , quickly go and top up with thinners again , each time you repeat that step your clear gets thinner and thinner …

until the last coat goes on as almost straight thinners…

dont let it pool or else it will take days to dry…

if you want a gloss use 2pac …its real easy to get a good finish…

acrylic is only good for mat speed finish…to get a good shine with acrylic requires perfect preparation, and then any scratch will still get shrink back,

a 2 pac and you can get a perfect shine spraying over 150 sanded finish…

hope some of that helps…

Thanks Bert.

I’ll give that 2pac stuff a try next time round…
