Question: cloth combos E and S cloths same board

Aloha everyone,

Because its what i have on hand, I’m considering glassing a couple of boards with combinations of 6 oz. E cloth and 4 oz. S cloth. Slight variations in weight don’t matter but strength and ease of glassing do. No big airbrushing or tinting gonna happen either…basically white boards with maybe a pin stripe and laminate. These are 6’ to 6’8" fishy shapes for beginners but big dudes.

So i’m thinking…

One layer 4 oz S cloth on the bottom

One layer 6 oz E cloth on the deck cut mid rail covered with a layer of the 4 oz. S.

I’ve glassed with both before without problems but never the combo.

I like the idea of the flatter weave on the outer layer…seems like it would hotcoat/sand easier

I’m nervous about what seems like the “tighter” weave covering the “looser” weave on the deck…worried it will be difficult to wet out/remove air bubbles.

These are Poly blanks/PU resin.

Hey, thanks for any feedback…i’m a cheapskate backyarder making boards for friends…

Howzit mitchell, I would put the 4oz s glass under the 6oz on the deck and when youlaminate the board make sure you really apply pressure at a slight angle to the squeegee to penetrate the glass with the resin. Jsut the way I do it.Aloha,Kokua
