Question regarding fin set up (w/ pics)

Hey Rod, The KG board came with the same exact set-up as the Amber Quads you have with the 3 1/4" Fin in front and the 5 1/4" fin in the rear. That is how my friend was riding it when he got the board, then he tried it another way and another. Put the small fins in front and the big fins in back and you will see the board just goes straight, because the cants are wrong. Mahalo,Larry

At this point how could I fix it? Have someone put a rear Probox box on it (even if it looks like crap) and move it further back? The cants don’t look off (unless I run the FCS H2 fin). Do you do that kind of work Larry?

Rod, The best thing is to retro fit the board, because Quad set-ups are tricky, cant and fin placement. If you really want to keep the board that would be my suggestion. Have Mark at Cool Breeze do it. But what I would do is sell the board period. Put money toward something more now or take your wife out to dinner with the money you get from selling the board. Because seeing the pics of your board collection I don’t think you will miss the Blue Board in question. Mahalo, larry (-:

Or you could sell it and get the thruster,no more problems. But then again it wouldn’t have 4 fins…the more fins the cooler the board. I say put another 2 fins on it, make it a 6 finner!!

Great idea resinhead! LOL (-:

I already have too many thrusters.

maybe I will jusy try it as a twin, if I don’t like it, sell it.

Rod, If you are going to try that board has a Twin, then do this. Get some 1/4 plywood and cut out a outline to your liking. Then just foil the fin best you can, but the cant in the plugs are wrong for a Twin also. Bevel the tabs to make the fin more upright then surf it. You will be able to get a idea if the board will work has a Twin before buying more fins. Mahalo,Larry

What would the “right cant” be? I just measured and it looks like the fronts are about 2 degrees and the rears are pretty much at 0 degrees. I have some spare FCS fins I could play with that I might beable to slighly change the cant with.

Interesting, I would guess 6 degree, That explains the other problems you were having with a Quad to upright not enough cant. I would guess 2 degree on that board is worth a shot. So just do the plywood base straight. Then let see what happens. Mahalo

Are you referring to doing a Keel fin out of plywood? If so, I already have an FCS keel fin that will work. Or should I just try to use the amber colored front fins and see how that goes?

No the amber front fins won’t work, not enough area. Don’t know about FCS, what is the Template like? Mahalo

Something along these lines rod. Mahalo

Rod, Better yet here,s a 5’ 11" Becker VERSA-PLANE Fish, Quad, Tri. Hope this helps you out. Mahalo

Here are the ones I have that fit FCS. I think they are only single foil, is that what I want?

Rod, Not to Keen on that for your board, but since that is what you have it’s a starting point. Try them in the Blue Board and see if it works better than a Quad. Mahalo

So the shape that the ones you have would be better? Maybe I should just buy a set from you and modify them with a dremel to fit the FCS plugs? Do you have any available/in stock?? I think the ones that I have are a bit large and might have too much area for such a small board.

Rod, Give me a call at the factory and we will figure something out. Mahalo, Larry

Cool, I will call you tomarrow

Looks like I will try this board as a twin with some fins from Larry.

Too bad that no one seems to make a fin with a 2-4 degree cant built in, maybe I could try it as a quad that way, and actually work. If anyone knows of a fin out there that has a slight cant built in, let me know.

Look forward to using it as a twin and seeing how it rides.

Rod, Not so fast, you can find a 4 degree fin and use your drimel tool to customize the fins. Look at Futures Fin choice and pick the fin you want with 4 degree available. Now look at the photo I sent you with the yellow KG board. Trace the FCS base forward on the small Future fin which will move this fin back and trace the FCS base on the large Future fin back which will move the fin forward in the FCS set-up. You can do this with Future which has a 6" base lenght to find a postion placement. Mahalo, Larry
